It was truly an honor to be selected to create these figures for the 2022 Church of the Brethren Annual Conference. They are called Embracing Diversity.
This tree is 14 feet tall and nine feet wide. It has over 500 leaves that I made by recycling LDPE (#4) plastic. I’m not aware of anyone else using this medium in art. I would like to find someone else who is and talk with them at length. This tree was commissioned by Camp Mack in Milford Indiana for their John Kline Welcome Center.
This large center piece was made using similar techniques that were used to build the tree.
Working with trees started with these wall hanging kinetic sculptures using stainless steel and brass leaves. For both of these, there is a motor behind the wood panel that moves the tree branches and causes the leaves to wave.
